October 26, 2013

OTTAWA, ON (October 26, 2013) - 2012 Olympian Melanie McCann (Mount Carmel, ON) finished in 5th place at the Champion of Champions showcase event in Doha, Qatar, an invitational event for the top 16 modern pentathletes in the 2013 season including World Cups and other international championships. The top-5 result was McCann’s highest career best-on-best placing and is her highest finish since her 11th place result at the Olympic Games last summer in London.

MELANIE MCCANN (22nd place): "I'm so excited about the fantastic finish in Doha! I was able to string together 5 good events and fight for a good position against some of the best pentathletes in the world. My running event was my strongest event today which was no surprise since I have been focused on that discipline for the last few months. It was a very prestigious event to be invited to and together with my coach John Hawes, we were very successful. I look forward to coming back again next year!"

JOHN HAWES (National Team Head Coach): "The exceptional focus that Melanie has been putting into her training is really paying off - her 5th place finish in Doha will build confidence and clearly demonstrates how she measures up against very best pentathletes in the World. I'm really looking forward to more breakthrough results in the upcoming 2014 World Cup season."
